By Chris Bloom. Since I find reading a PDF on my laptop pretty tedious, I decided to order a copy of the book from here. In general, I'm pretty disappointed with the result.
Some of the code examples are VERY hard to read because of the light font they are printed in. It has bad reviews on site The Well Grounded Rubyist looks like a great book though. I don't know about the newest edition.
Followed the previous one when I started learning Ruby and it helped me a lot. I can imagine the newest edition doesn't change much in general. By the way, before Beginning Ruby I followed Learn to Program , and found it a really good guide to start programming and uses Ruby to explain everything. I'm using the latest pickaxe book and having tried a few other books I think it's the best.
It doubles as a solid reference book too. One good thing about why's guide, you won't find any weird concepts like "code smells" in it. But I could do without its obsession with bacon. Poor pigs.
